Correspondence.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE ' PRESS.' Sin, —I write this to you to expose the state of things concerning the Lyttelton Colonist Society, for I am certain that it was never in such a miserable plight as it is now. Persons desirous of reading some particular book go to the library aud ask for that book, and knowing it is in, inquire for it, and the librarian coolly turns round and says it is not in, and all the time he condemns himself, and I being a member who pay my subscription as well as any of the gentlemen who frequent it, expect to get a certain book if it is in, but this I was refused; and after waiting a little longer, one of the members came in, he being what they term a gentleman, and asking for the same book, the librarian (looking around to see if I was in) says, " Yes, sir, I kept it on purpose for you." Now, sir, if this is to be the case, the sooner the library or librarian is done away with the better. Hoping this will not be the case any more, I am, Sec, ONE WHO HAS PAID HIS SUBSCRIPTION. Lyttelton, Sept. 23,1803. *
