GENTLEMEN,— I purpose presenting myself on the nomination day as a candidate for :s your seat in the General Assembly. g * I believe that for a long time the Maories have 5 > harboured the most sinister intentions towards our race in the North Island, nnd that everywhere, j' they have more or less coimted at our hands such a scries of thrashings as will, if anything can, 0 revive their loyalty to the Queen's supremacy, and l » stimulate their honesty to ourselves. *' As I volunteered for the Maori war hi April, 1860, you have my views on this subject in tho ?, most comprehensive form. Hitherto, at elections, I have always advised my brother electors to hold themselves completely unpledged until tho day of nomination, I now , r request it. I shall visit all the Bays before the day of nomination, and have the honor of submitting my views to you on the other subjects of interest, but I shall not canvass your votes individually.
