VICTOMA. We havo news from Melbourne to the 12th inst. Tlve Aye of that date says :— Business in the import market has opened out extremely quiet, doalere seeming rather to avoid, , than enter, upon any new engagement. » The cele- ( bration of tho Jewish holidays, moreover, interferes somewhat with trade, as a number of places of business belonging to merchants of that persuasion have in consequence been closed. Trans- 1 actione have been throughout the day, confined ' to supplying the merest trade wants. Feeding ' wheat has been sold at 5s 6d per bushel. Carlisle ! Company's ale has been placed at £7 123 6d. 1 ADELAIDE. i The bouth Australian Register reports of the t markets: — Thursday evening, September 10. * Hardly any business of importance has been s transacted 'during the past week. No fresh orders for exports have been received, and prices nre in consequence not so firm ; but a very little demand i would cause an upward tendency again, as stocks c are being daily lessened. Flour—We have heard of no sales, and prices l remain at £13 10s to £14 per ton. s Wheat.—Some few purchases havo beou made j at 5s 10d per bushel at tho Port, but very little is offering, and in town the price is about 5s 7d to ■< Ss Bd. ...... m 1 Bran has improved again, a sale of twenty-five tons having been made at Is 3d per bushel at the c Port. ~ i: Oftts" and barley are steadily moving off in retail c paroeUat current rates. A slight demand exists j, for potatoes, with a tendency towards advance ; hut, as considerable quantities arc coming to hand, s we do not apprehend any decided improvement, v jPruM?s continue as before, viz.:— v Flour £12 I,os to £13 per ton, wheat 5a 3d to 5s 6d per bushel, oats 63 to 6s 6d per bushel. I Potatoes £5 10s to £6 per ton, bags included, t! Onions £20 to £22 per ton. — Mercury. Lauuceston, Sept. 9. The wheat and flour market remains in a n quiescent stale, but the tendency of prices is still a npwsrcls. Buyers offer 5s 3d to 5s 6d per bushel, but most holders docline to sell under. Flour is ° firm at about £13 per ton for beat brands; oats 8l 5e to 5s Gd per bushel.
