Captain H. E. Reader George Leslie Lee, Esq. F. A. Weld, Esq. C. E. Dumpier, Esq. Thomas Ritchie, Esq. Robert Wilkin.Eeq. Bankebb.—Bank of Nor Zealand. rpHIS COMPANY has been formed for th< JL purpose of establishing a regular Stean Coastal Service between Lyttclton and the North crn Porte of Canterbury. Their first steamer is now being built, and wil arrive in the province from England at the com mencement of next wool season. The dimensions of this vessel havo been express Jy* regulated to suit the navigation and trade o our different rivers, combining largo carrying ca parity with light draught of water; thus enablini her not only with ease and safety to navigate tin Saltwater Creek, but this steamer will also be ver suitable, and prove a valuable acquisition to thi Heathcote ana Kaiapoi river trade. The Directors deem it unnecessary to touch oi the usual speculative analysis of trade probabilities whereon to base their assumptions in this case; thei can rest with confidence on well known and ad mitted facts to prove the soundness, stability, anc necessity of this undertaking. They request the public to judge whether ornoi there ia at the present time oven a moderntelj regular and sufficient trade communicatior between Port and Cliristclmrch, or between Lyt telton and the other outports ; they cannot mil anticipate their just decision on this point, for this greatly increasing necessity is becoming more apparent every day. The present trade of Canterbury imperatively demands a quicker and more regular mode of transit, which it is the aim of this company to supply, and in the supplying of which tho directors have every reason, on" very sure grounds indeed, to anticipate a large, most important, and lucrative business. The Directors intend that the Company's first vessel already alluded to, being tho smallest and beet adapted for the Creek and Kaiapoi trade, ehall, immediately on arrival, be placed iv tin's service during the wool season; afterwards to co-operate from time to time in the Christchurch trade with the other stoamers of this Company about to follow, which vessels will bo fitted with erery new improvement, and have sufficient extra eteam power for tho purpose of towing in the river, over the bar, and elsewhere as required ; and it is estimated that a regular system of towing, with moderate charges, will result in no inconsiderable extra item in the profits of the Company. The Directors, in conclusion, request the attention of the public to the foregoing, being confident- that the objects of the Company require enly to be made known to be esteemed well worthy the active support and encouragement of the province.
