mHE TOWNSHIP OF LEITHFIELD The sanitarium of Canterbury, twenty-seven miles north of Christchurch, the North Road running through the centre of the town, with a good road to the beach which is about a-mile and a-quartcr distant, and which has a fine mossy flat running parallel with the bench about three or four chains from the sea, (with a fine stretch of hard dry sand at low water,) " a splendid place for visitors and families " to ride or have a pic-nic, and will some day become the race-course of the north. The township is situated within sight of these and is surrounded by a largo and rapidly improving agricultural thrtrict. Some idea of the rapidity with which it is advancing may bo formed by the fact that upwards of sixty town sections aro already sold, that there are, besides other inhabitants, a medical practitioner, a blacksmith, a butcher, and a nursery gardener, established in tho town—that a residence for tho district Engineer and buildings for Government Offices are in the course of erection, and that advertisements are issued for tenders for the materials and construction of the Church. The Hotel will also be speedily enlarged for the better accommodation of the visitors who are already repairing to this healthy spot for the benefit of then* health. Tho prices realised at auction, by Messrs. Aikman and Wilson, ranging from £12 10s. to £22, arc a good proof of the value of tho site, being bought by parties who well know tho place. A great many sections having been sold privately since the sole by auction, the proprietor has decided to sell tho remaining sections that are laid out, all by private sole, at £12 10s. per quarter-acre.
