THB TOWN OF LINCOLN LINCOLN DISTRICT Township in the largest Auricultural District in the Province. MESSRS. J. 01 JAVIER «$■ SO\ Have been favored with instructions to sell by public auction, at their Itooins, Cashel and High streets, at an early date, npHK Qua ßTiiii- Acre Sections applied •*- for iv the TOWN OF LINCOLN. When the Canterbury Settlement was first laid out by Captain Thomas, a site was set apart for a town in that lange aiul rich agricultural district which lies in tire angle between Bauks' Peninsula and Lake Eilesmere. The Government having abandoned the intention of making a town for this district, and the necessity for a town becoming daily more apparent, as the country becomes peopled ami occupied, the original plan of Captain Thornaa has been revised, and. the Town of Lincoln is now laid out and offered for sale by private proprietors. The site of the Town of Lincoln, as now laid out, differing somewhat from that originally proposed, is on the banks of n stream known as l\o. I gully, running from trig, pole 1, in the Lincoln District, towards tha Peninsula Hills. It is situated on good dry land, ly.ng on both sides of the valley, which is at this place about twenty feet deep, having a beautiful stream of clear and delicious water running rapidly at the bottom. Two Public roads meet at the stream, and run into one at the bridge which will form a handsome object in the centre of the Town, having clustered around it the reserves for Churches, Schools, Market-place, and Court House. A broad terrace is carried down each side of the Btraam, and the whole of the slope on both sides • of the "water comprising about eight acres will be * set apart for ever as Public Gardens, for the use and enjoyment of the inhabitants. .At a very abort distance below the Town, a Flour Mill will shortly be erected, on the same stream. ' Such is the extent of land already in cultiva- ; tion in the neighbourhood, and so rapidiy are fresh Farms being occupied that Blaekbiriiths and other mechanics would already tind an excellent opening for business while a country Inn a Store, a Butcher's and a Baker's shop -vould oJso find abundant Custom. The close neighi> bourhood of the Mill will create a good mr>.rk<jt for flour in.the Town. But alova all this, the Town will be amply supplied with firewood, and building materials. The Lowei Lincoln Koad which runs through the centiv of the Town pas , so:-. through the swamp, and crossing the river HaUwull reaches the base of he Hills at about liii-ca miles distance from LINCOLN, which ia thus placed'within four mile of the extensive forests of the Peninsula. Tho money for opening this rond is afrosidy voted, and the work is about to be undertaken .xnrnodiat.ely by the Government. It may bi- r.dded that the Little Rivor Railway, about tii brt commenced will run little moif than a nrlo from Lincoln, so that a short branch line will connect it with the forests of the Little River, on thr one side, and with the market in the City of Christchurch, on the other. It may he said that no site can be found in the vrhole of this large district which contains the same advantages of dry, healthy situation, rising voli above the swamp, excellent wator, and abundant supply of building materials, nnd which 1 os in the main thoroughfare through the E'iMvoii'AL AamcuLTUKAii District in the . PKOViNO*',. Upsrt price —£l2 per (/natter ace. Lot: applied for will be submitted to public . miction, from time to time, and if there is r;o further advance will be declared sold to the applicant. Terms— Ono-tliird Casli, balance in 6 and 12 months. For particulars, kc apply to j J. OLLIVIER & SON, Auctioneers. .Christchurch, June 20, 1862.
