OTAGO.
(From the Otago * Colonist.') The latest news from the gold-fields is of the same character as what we have already received. No new fields have been discovered, but deeper sinking has been
tried with success on the Tuapeka field. A second deposit of gold has been found to lie underthe rock upon which the upper deposit rested This will cause the Tuapeka district to last longer than was anticipated. A serious collision took place on the night of Thursday, Oct. 10, between the steamers Lyttelton and Kembla, about mid-way between Port Chalmers and the heads. The Kembla was seriously damaged, and had to return to Port for repairs. She had on board a large number of passengers, and a considerable quantity of gold. The Lyttelton was also a good deal damaged.
