Coranrunicationa intended for insertion must be accompanied by the name of the -writer. We have received eeveral communications from 'Teetotallers, , bu.t are nnablo to insert them for lack of room. To the Editor of ' The Press. , Island Kaiapoi, Sept. 20th. 1861. Sir, —Leave mc to crave the indulgence of a short reply to Mr. Anderson's letter, wliich, I am sorry to say, is in substance a reiterated mis-repTcservtation of the case at issue between ua, with a. taint of ill nature I never thought him capable of. I abstain from a repetition of details, but still persist that my plough was not allowed a fair trial, and that elated as he was with success, he evaded, further competition upon the terms agreed upon, after accepting my challenge. I shall however, be moat happy, at any time to contend with him both in the ploughing and the workmanship, with two of my ploughs, onew-heeled, the ofclier swing against trwo of his own, before unbiassed judges, able and willing to give an impartial decision. I am at a loss to understand his antipathy to wheeled ploughs; indeed, I submit that in a level country like tins, they make better work and are less laborious to man and beast. I make all allowances for the language used m Mr, Anderson's epistle, and shrink from a retaliation of abuse by application of greek words or otherwise, but trusts he will accede to my proposal in all possible friendliness, that by a fair exhibition and trial, we may convince the agriculturists of the respective merits of our ploughs. Meanwhile, I remain, Sir, Yours respectfully, JOSEPH KEETLEY.
