RUFFIANISM IN CHARLESTON.
(TO THE EDITOR OF THE CHARLESTON ARGUS.) Sir,—Last Easter Monday there was a great display at the Casino de Venice, in the shape of uncontrolled rowdyism. The following day a gentleman was strivk by a ruffian whilst taking his dinner, because he expressed his honest opinion about the row of the previous night. It appears also that one of the principal ringleaders of Monday night went, the night after, in company with three others to a house, where they dragged a woman out of bed, and upon the husband interfering, he was knocked down and kicked in the most shameful manner. In the face of such actions it becomes necessary that we should organise a body who shall at any time be ready to put a stop to this rowdyism. I am, Sir, Yours respectfully, Justice. Charleston, May Ist, 18G7.
