BAY FARMERS TOLD OF DEPUTATION TO MINISTER
How the scarcity of smalldiameter water pipes had been brought to the notice of the Minister of Supply, Mr Bowden, by a deputation representing Federated Farmers in Waikato and the Bay was told to the Bay of Plenty Provincial Executive by the president, Mr S. A. Wells, at a meeting in Whakatane v yesterday. The Minister had been told, said
Mr Wells, that the shipments coming forward were mainly in large sizes. Very little three-quarter inch piping was available. Four shipments, awaiting discharge,. including one that had been waiting since July 6, contained very little threequarter or half-inch piping. The deputation had impressed on Mr Bowden the need to free threequarter inch piping from all controls. Large quantities had been offered from continental sources at reasonable prices. It had been urged that immediate steps be taken to issue licences for importations. Figures produced had shown that orders were on hand for 6,000,000 F-feet in the Waikato and 1,360,000 in the Bay. The Minister had promised an early reply. ,
