Sheep In Wool Bring Record Prices At Southern Sale
As an indication that the peak has not been reached so far as sheep in the wool are concerned, prices for fat sheep at the Feilding stock sale advanced to record levels. Heavy wool prime wethers were just short of £6 a head at 118 s Id, while prime fat hoggets with heavy wool jumped to 97s 7d. Fat ewes in the wool also recorded their highest price level to date of 83s 4d. A small percentage of the offering was shorn, and for wethers top values ranged up to approximately 60s with hoggets at 55s 4d. Store sheep were not in large supply and the demand rapidly accounted for all offered at keenly competitive rates.
Strong interest was shown in the station cattle section, where more than 1700 head were on offer. Prices held very firm and although reserves were too high for buyers in several cases good trading was done. Dairy and store cattle both sold well'.
