YOUNG BOY JUST ESCAPES ELECTROCUTION

A young infant son of Mr and Mrs S. G. Hirst, Whakatane, narrowly escaped electrocution during the week-end when he touched a live part of an electric stove with a knife. He was slightly shocked but otherwise suffered no ill effects. At the back of the stove there are two holes apparently left open for the power cables. One of the openings is in use but the other is open and it was through this that the child poked the knife. Luckily it had a bone handle and provided some protection but it caught alight. Mr Hirst said yesterday that the openings were a definite danger to young children. He had screened the back of his stove and thought that other parents should do likewise to prevent any possible tragedy. (
