SEARCH GOES ON FOR MISSING MAN; NO SUCCESS YET
The search for George Drayson, of Salonika Street, Whakatane, who did not return from a. fishing trip at the Heads on Sunday, continues. Two days’ search has been without success.
Sixteen men, drawn from police, the Legion of Frontiersmen and St John Ambulance, combed the ridges overlooking the cliffs on Monday. The beach from Paroa to Ohope was searched and the launch “Outlaw” trawled the coast. The launch “Port Whakatane” stood off the cliffs. All bays were searched with dinghies. Twelve men continued the search yesterday. It had been hoped that the launch fitted with radio, to signal the shore, would patrol but the weather reported prevented this.
The set of the current is towards Paroa.
The suggestion has been made that, caught by the tide, Drayson might have gone back inshore and, for that reason, the search Yf ridges and cliffs has not been given up. He recently underwent an operation for hernia and it *s considered possible that he might be on shore, injured. The police express co-operation for the assistance given by volunteer searchers.
