Bay Championship Table Tennis Titles Draw Large Entries
Total entries in the Bay of Plenty Table Tennis championships played at Tauranga were slightly in excess of those last year, although there were fewer entrants in the open singles. The standard of play was good and Bay of Plenty players met with considerable success in the tournament.
The open singles was won by the old campaigner, Frank Paton, formerly of Whakatane, who retained his title by defeating L. Brewer, of Tauranga, -in a five-set final: Title holders of the Bay of Plenty championship events for 1950 are : Women’s Open Singles, Miss D. Akehurst (Waikato); Men’s Open Singles, Frank Paton (Bay of Plenty); Men’s Open Doubles, Paton and Brewer (Bay of Plenty); Women’s Open Doubles, Mesdames Eniery and Te Whau (Waikato); Combined Doubles, L. Brewer (Bay of Plenty) and Miss D. Akehurst (Waikato). Women’s Bracelet: .Miss J. Mackay (Bay of Plenty); Men’s Plate, P. Grant (Bay of Plenty); Junior Girls’ Singles, A. Newland ((Bay of Plenty); Junior Boys’ Singles, D. Mills (Bay of Plenty). B Grade.—Women’s Singles, Mrs Te Whau (Waikato); Men’s Singles, R. Bailey (Bay of Plenty); Women’s Doubles, Mesdames Emery and Te Whau (Waikato); Men’s Doubles, R. Wagstaff and R. Bailey (Bay of Plenty); Combined Doubles, R. Bailey and Miss A.
