THREE SHIELD GAMES TO BE PLAYED Three Whakatane Rugby teams will be playing in representative shield games on Saturday. The main game will be at Rotorua where Whakatane is to play Rotorua for the Te Hurinni Apanui Shield in the main challenge of the season. Whakatane came close to winning it last year. An earlier game for the Parata Cup will be played between Whakatane and Rotorua third grades.

Both Whakatane teams will leave McComb’s bus depot at 10 a.m. Rugby will be played at Whakatane, the main being for the Shalfoon Shield, which Whakatane will defend from Rangitaiki. A curtain raiser will be played between Whakatane primary schools and a high school lightweight team. RANGITAIKI TO MEET GALATEA Rangitaiki A will play Galatea at Murupara on Saturday in a Burt Shield elimination Rugby match. A bus will leave Matata at 10 a.m. travelling through Thornton and Edgecumbe and leaving Te Teko at 10.30.
