Fifth Birthday Of Thornton W.I.
The Thornton- Women’s Institute celebrated its fifth birthday this month, Mrs Branch presiding over a full attendance. , Many visitors from other Institutes were present.
The hall was decorated with bowls of spring flowers. A play entitled “Memories” was much enjoyed. Mrs Sheat arranged a novelty quiz game. Mrs Hitchens sang a song and Mrs Robb gave a recitation. At afternoon tea, served by members of the committee, the birthday cake, decorated with five candles, was cut by Mrs Withy, V. 0., Mrs Arbuckle made and iced the cake.
Competition results were:— Best flower, Mrs Law 1, Mrs Robb 2; best vegetable, Mrs Sheat 1, Mrs Law 2; shortbread, Mrs Foote 1, Mrs D. Branch 2; bowl of flowers, Mrs Robb 1, Mrs Tooke 2; bed sox, Mrs Robb 1. Mrs Checkley 2. Mrs Fisher won the box of chocolates and Miss B. Magee the vase.
