A. DUNSMUIR WINS AT MT. MAUNGANUI A number of Whakatane and Matata boxers competed with some success at the Mount Maunganui Club’s tournament last week-end. The most successful was the Matata boy, A. Dunsmuir, who won the D. Grayling Cup with his win over a Matamata opponent. Following are descriptions of two of the bouts: C. Barraclough (Katikati) 10.3 defeated J. Stevenson (Whakatane) 9.12 after an even fight. Most of the attacking was done, by Stevenson in the first round but a slugging match developed towards the finish. Round, two was even and round three was spent in both trading heavy punches at long range. The decision met with a mixed reception.

A. Dunsmuir (Matata) 10.10 defeated J. Clare (Matamata) 10.11 after a torrid bout which finished early in round two. Dunsmuir rushed in when the ball rang and with two solid punches to the head, had Clare down. for a brief spell. Clare ran into another straight left on regaining his feet but was saved by the gong. In the second round, after brisk exchanges, Clare again left himself open and received a knock-out blow.
