Large Conga Eel A large conga eel measuring about sft 6ins was caught from the rocks at the Heads by a Whakatane resident on Tuesday afternoon. The fish took some time to land' and gave its captor a ] tiring struggle. It is destined as food for fowls. Stole Guitar Charged with stealing a guitar valued at £8 10s Tana Teepa, labourer, Whatatutu, Ruatoki, was convicted and ordered to pay costs £9 2s by Messrs L. H. Brown and C. H. Brebner, J’s. P., in the Whakatane Police Court on Wednesday.
The Tour Auckland’s' bustle rather overawed a country woman visitor. She was frightened of the traffic, and got lost several times. Then her uncle took pity on her and offered to show her the sights. They spent all of one day in trams and buses, and visited all the places of interest, the uncle keeping up a running commentary as he pointed out places of interest. The fact that he was quite blind and had been for many years in no way handicapped him.
Short Trip ! An incident that has often been depicted on the films,, usually comedies, actually happened in Christchurch recently. A , taxi driver, meeting an evening train from the south, was asked by a woman passenger if he was engaged. While she was getting in, the driver stowed her suitcase on the luggage grid. He moved in behind the wheel and was pulling away before i asking, “Where to?” The taxi- driver was rather surprised by the reply, “Storey’s Hotel,” but drove the passenger to her destination—directly across the street.
