STRONG COMPETITION FOR WAIRERE CUP Five crews provided strong competition for the Wairere Cup in trial four trophy races held by the Whakatane Rowing Club on Saturday. Considerable interest was aroused by these races, which are the last competitive events before the Hamilton regatta on Monday. The winning '•crew r , P. Armstrong, M. Brown, Cropp, T. Stewart (P. Lynds cox) won three races, taking the final fairly comfortably from P. Bowering, G. Butler, D. Baker, K. Dines (T. Flay). Other crews were stroked by R. King who lost to v P. Bowering, L. Stewart who lost to Armstrong, G. Moore who beat Bowering. Armstrong beat Bowering in the semi-final.
