Huge Dozer For Hamilton District

\ To keep pace with modern trends in roadmaking, a Hamilton firm of contractors has acquired the latest in machinery for use in this specialised work. It is known as the Tourneau Dozer, a huge example of the type, operating with 180 horse-power. It is the only one of this model in the Dominion. The machine has a speed rating of 15 miles an hour at work, and therefore is much faster than any other of the large type. Shod with rubber, it departs from the former type of cletrac iron grips., and relies entirely on rubber for gripping soft or greasy surfaces. An idea of the size is obtained by the statement that the wheels are nearly six feet in diameter, and each tyre costs nearly £3OO. The total weight is 13£ tons. One of its first jobs will probably be in connection with the reconstruction of the PutaruruTokoroa railway.
