LARGE NUMBER OF AWARDS AT BOYS’ BRIGADE FUNCTION

\ - £ A large crowd /of both parents and friends attended the annual > presentation of certificates and badges earned during the year by members of the Ist Whakatane Company’ of the Boys.’ Brigade, held in the King Street Hall. ' The Company was inspected by the Reverend , ; R. T. Dodds and the awards presented by Mrs M. Craig, chief of the Caledonian Society.

All the boys attended a tea before the presentation when the Rev Dodds paid the “rent” or thanked those who s had assisted in the work of the Boys’ Brigade at Whakatane during the year. After she had presented the awards Mrs Craig said that there must have been a lot of work done judging by the number of certificates and medals won. She said she was glad to see such a movement as the Boys’ Brigade at Whakatane, which fitted them out for good citizens.

Anyway, it must be a good movement as it started in Scotland, Mrs Craig added. The following were those who received awards:—
