Caledonian Society Celebrates St. Andrew's Nicht

The Caledonian Society’s members and visitors spent a most enjoyable evening on December 3, celebrating St. Andrew’s day. Everyone was in the mood to help each other enjoy themselves. Scottish songs were sung by Mrs K. Armstrong, Mrs T. Burke and Mr »M. Burke. Miss Carol King danced the Highland Fling. Miss E. Ross, Miss Lasky and Master Robb danced the Filng as a trio, and Miss Ella Ross the Sword dance. The children were a great help to inspire the Scottish lore. Mrs Peck brought a deal of humour with her elocution. Mr Hay, Mr Albiston and Mr T. O’Rourke with piano, violin and piccalo, played with some distinction. Miss Lorna Belvel (Tauranga) N.Z. North Island Champion, gave the gathering a very much appreciated exhibition' of .Highland Dancing. Tauranga Pipers and Drummers swelled the members in Highland dress, making a very colourful fixture. Mr C. Kingsley-Smith, ably gave the address to the Haggis. Mr E. Hal,was a very lively M.C., Harrison’s Orchestra was much appreciated and the popular opinion was that the “nicht” was a typical Scottish ingleside.
