Land Settlement And Rehabilitation Board Appointments

The Minister of Lands and Rehabilitation (Mr C. F. Skinner) replied as follows to a resolution submitted to him by Federated Farmers urging that the federation should have the right to appoint a representative to the Land Settlement Board and the Rehabilitation Board:—

“The Land. Settlement Board is mainly concerned with the problems affecting Crown tenants and prospective Crown tenants and, so far as I know, there is no organisation fully representative of their interests. This being so, it is felt that any appointments to the board of persons to speak on behalf of Crown tenants should be of men for their particular knowledge and appreciation of Crown tenants’ problems. “It is not considered advisable to enlarge the representation on the Rehabilitation Board. Under the Rehabilitation Act, 1941, the constitution of the board is limited to certain names persons or officers and such other persons not exceeding five in number as the GovernorGeneral may from time to time appoint. At present, all appointments provided for are filled.”
