DOUBLE HEADER
Sir, —Quoting from Press 29/8/49 “Britain must more more dollars.” An American ballad of fairly recent vintage used to advise all and sundry to “Ac-cent-uate the positive eliminate the negative.” It seems to have been revived as the theme song of American financiers and economic administrators. In fact it is a new version of Nellie Bly caught a fly etc. If we are to break away; we must change our economic admiinstration from Wall Street and Thread-needle. Street to the control of a national authority, for and by the people. There must be a break! ' And we must treat this case of threat of control and usury; as Shakespeare treated old Shylock. When we read such tripe as this: The American market for finished goods is actually expanding; and this is essentially the market which Britain should be able to expliot, if only her export prices were competive.” If Britain reduced her prices and devalued her currency under present conditions, both countries would crash; and/ Wail Street with her funny money would be the supreme dictator! But w r e must call this huge blue. There is no necessity to be in it further than you like to go. There is a double header in the kip. Yours etc., W. BRADSHAW.
