Whakatane W.I. Holds Annual Flower Show

At this month’s meeting, when the Whakatane Women’s Institute held their annual flower display, there was a large attendance of members presided over by Mrs Stewart. The collection of dried fruit cake for the Link Institute resulted in enough for two parcels. An interesting talk “hints on staging flowers for a show” followed by a demonstration, a presentation box, was given by Mrs B. Johnson. She was accorded a vote of thanks. Mrs Davie sang two songs. Competition winners:— Framed picture (floral) on a plate: Mrs Sutcliffe 1, Mrs Fennell 2. Jugcover for hospital: Mrs Larsen 1, Mrs Dixon 2. Grapefruit: Mrs N. Martin 1, Mrs C. E. Stewart 2. A competition for a fruit cake was won by Mrs Roberts, Awakeri. At the conclusion of the meeting flowers, jug covers and fruit were delivered to the hospital. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Matthews, Meachan, Moran, Mortensen, Murphy, Norman, K. Needham, L. Needham and Orchard.
