POROPORO AND UNITED DRAW

Wairaka drew further ahead in the Bracken Cup senior rugby competition in the Whakatane Union on Saturday when Taneatua defaulted, because of their inability to field a full team. In the match Whakatane United and Poroporo fought out a six-all draw in one of the hardest games seen on the ground for some weeks.

Fielding a strong pack United met Poroporo on even terms. However, they were matched by the agile blue forwards playing spoiling rugby. The United backs gave a very much improved performance, attacking determinedly at every opportunity but found the Poroporo backline hard on defence.

Scorers: United, try by Rutherford, penalty goal by De Lacey.. Poroporo, penalty goal each by Biddle and Hotene.

UNITED JUNIORS RETAIN WILSON CUP

By defeating Paroa by II points to three on Saturday United established a record of being winners of the junior championship and the Wilson Cup competition for the past three years. In their final game

The game - was slow and not particularly bright with the score a good indication of the individual merits of both teams. . For Electricians S. McMillan scored a try, which was not converted, and T. Henderson potted a field goal. P. and T.’s points came from a "try by P. Larmont, converted by R. Kenny.
