WHAKATANE PRICES
Sir, —it is - about time something was done to stop the exhorbitant prices now being charged at Whaiiatane for different articles. Last week 1 bought a pair of men’s grey trousers for £3 10s. 1 went across the road and in a different shop saw the same kind of t rousers marked 49s 6d. Will some one please tell me why we have to pay these prices and why everythnig in Whakatane is dearer than at any. other centre in the Bay of Plenty. Yours etc., STUNG AGAIN. This letter was referred to the president of th'e Whakatane Retailers’ Association, Mr R. T. Morpeth, who explained that the first trousers purchased by the writer were probably made of English cloth and the second pair in New Zealand. The difference was understandable as the English trousers had more overhead e.xpenses before reaching the New Zealand retailer than the same article made of almost the same cloth in the New Zealand mills. Editor.
