Fancy Dress Ball Held By Children Of Matata School

A most successful Children’s Fancy Dress Ball was held in the King’s Theatre, Matata, on Thursday by the Matata Maori School Committee. The theatre was filled to capacity by crowds of children in colourful costume'; and large numbers of admiring parents. The children’s part in the dance was from 7 p.m. to 9 p.ni. and commenced with the Grand March for Seniors and a Maze March for Juniors. These provided a colour ful and varied spectacle as the costumed children paraded round the hall, their marching drawing much favourable comment. A programme of folk dances, round dances and musical games followed. The school loud speaker system proved a great asset in providing music, for these items.

A children’s monte carlo was won by Mickey Mouse and ' Groucho Marx, while musical arms winners were Serena Hawthorne and Cletus Perenara. The candid camera man had a busy time with numerous juvenile customers.

At the conclusion of the children’s dances, the chairman, Mr J. Dredge, thanked the Headmaster and staff for their work in training the children and praised the good behaviour of the children.
