Whakatane Man Commands Haurakis

Mr F. Prideaux, Whakatane, has been appointed Colonel of the Hauraki Regiment in the new Territorial Force system, according to a decision of the New Zealand Army Board.

Colonel Prideaux, C.8.E., E.D., was commissioned from the ranks in 1918 and was auditor to the First N.Z.E.F. He was made officer in charge of the base pay office on the outbreak of the Second World War. He sailed in the first Echelon and became chief paymaster of the Second N.Z.E.F. He was mentioned in despatches for services in Italy.

He returned to Whakatane in 1945 to take up private practice.
