Waimana-Nukuhou W.I. Meeting Was Well Attended
Attendance at the meeting of the Waimana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute was very good, one new member being welcomed, Mrs Perry. Mrs Looney presided, and welcomed all and thanked Mrs J. Boynton for taking the August meeting for her. Stewards and tearoom helpers were appointed for the Federation Show', which is to be held in Whakatane this month. During the entertainment, a Quiz Session was arranged by Mrs J. Mitchell, and proved quite interesting. A humorous musical mime, entitled, “Riding Down to Bangor” was staged by members of the Glee Club. Mrs K. Brown, of .Otara, gave an interesting and useful demonstration on soft toy making. Mrs Brown also had a good collection of the finished toys on exhibition, and at the conclusion of the demonstration, she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. 'Mrs Looney, who.was the Institute delegate to the Dominion Conference, gave an excellent report of the conference. The speaker stated that Institute members in New Zealand now numbered 28,538. The day’s competitions were:—■' Best single flower: Mrs H. Bell 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs Martin 3. Best multiple flower: Mrs Rust 1, Mrs Lex McDonald 2, Mrs Wylde' and Mrs Whiteman equal, 3. Best vegetable: Mrs F. Bell 1, Mrs M. King 2, Mrs Hpwitt 3. Jar of preserved peaches:. Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs I. Savage 2, Mrs F. Bell 3. Piklets: Mrs Stevenson 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs F. Bell and Mrs Stansbury equal, 3. Mrs Looney at the conclusion of the meetipj* thanked the judges and hostesses and those who helped with the programe. The singing of the National Anthem closed the meeting.
