Wellington Suburbs’ Petrol Ration Scheme
Strict rationing of petrol has been adopted by each of the seven Wellington eastern suburbs service stations. Described as an effort “to see that each motorist gets a fair allowance” the scheme, which has the approval of the oil fuel authorities, entitles only motorists of the eastern district to the supply. The weekly allocation for large cars will be three gallons; for small cars, two gallons, and for motor cycles half a gallon. Those enrolled at the eastern stations will be issued with cards giving details of name and address and the car, and cards are to be clipped each time a gallon is drawn. One Northland service station has employed the coupon rationing since the end of January.
