Keen Bidding For Pickled Sheep And Lamb Pelts At Wellington Sale
The New Zealand Meat Producers Board’s first sale for the season of pickled sheep and lamb pelts was held at Wellington on January 30.
Offerings totalled 102 lots comprising 18,179 dozen sheep and 144,819 dozen lamb pelts. A full bench of buyers was present. Bidding was keen, the overall average price of sheep pelts showing a rise of approximately 50 per cent and that of lamb pelts a rise of approximately 30 per cent on the average prices realised at the closing sale last season. Range of prices follows: Auckland District: Sheep 136 s to 138 s per dozen; lambs 79s 6d to 92s 6d per dozen. Hawke’s Bay-East Coast: Sheep 122 s to 138 s per dozen; lambs 72s to 86s per dozen.
