RUGBY DANCE

UNITED CLUB’S FUNCTION HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL EVENING The first dance to be put on by a fotball club this season was held in the Winter Show Buildings on Saturday night. The United Club are to be congratulated on their lead in this direction and it is to be hoped that other clubs will follow suit with similar functions.

The hall had been nicely decorated with greenery, streamers and celophane paper creating an excellent setting for the dance. A good crowd was in attendance and all enjoyed the programme of modern and old-time dances. Music was provided by the popular Freddie Burt and his band and an extra was played by Mr R. Grant. Mr P, Bryers made a capable and humorous Master of Ceremonies. An excellent supper was served. During the evening Mr Sam Carter, president of the United Football Club, welcomed patrons and expressed the, hope that they would enjoy themselves.

Features of the evening were a confetti foxtrot, hoki-toki, a novelty gay gordons and a “bottle” monte carlo, the latter being won by Mr C. Gilpin and Miss M. O’Rourke. Dancing continued until midnight when the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” concluded a very enjoyable evening.
