PAROA v WAIMANA

A DRAWN GAME

In a competition game played at I lie W'Jiakatane Domain at the weekend Paroa and Waimana had a most interestjnt; match which ended in a tie alter a close linis,h. Waimana had 'first use of the wicket and opened with Webbs and Axtens but with only 13 runs on the board Axtens was bowled by Gillam. The next two wickets fell cheaply and wickets were down for 9 runs, and Paroa was in a good position. However the score was taken to 35 before the next wicket fell ? but the rot set. in again and Waimana were all out for 58 runs. Wells was the only batsman to earch double figures scoring 1 I runs. The Paroa fielding was not the best several easy chances being dropped. The most successful bowlers lor Paroa were Gillam 'A wickets for V 2 funs; Smith 3 lor 5; Cleland 2 for 29. Paroa opened just before tbe adjournment but wickets fell cheaply and live were down for V.i runs. Things looked black lor Paroa however a good partnership between Cleland and Gillam took the score to -18 before Gillam was caught by Axtens who took a good one handed catch. Paroa only had 11 runs to win and 4 wickets to fall. However wickets again fell and the last man was in with one run to win_ when a very short, single was. called for and a run out the game ending in a tie. Wells and Menzies bore the brunt of the attack for Waimana bowling practically throughout .
