VESUVIUS IN ERUPTION DESCRIPTION IN N.2.E.F. TIMES Giving a description of Mount Vesuvius in eruption, a writer in the. N.Z.E.F. Times wrote: 'T watched it digest an Italian village for tea. The dark, smoking cliff pushed a Avail down and edged into a fresh dewy garden, where, broad beans were in llower. The heat withered the plants within about 10 feet. On it came. The tide crept forward, tumbled round a tree, that* suddenly burst into flame. Then on to the front of a house, up the walls and round the side. The house caught fire inside and half an hour later had vanished Avithout a trace."
