SUCCESSFUL MAORI EFFORT
CONGRATULATIONS to the Ngatiawa Maori Patriotic Committee on the raising of well over one hundred pounds at its recent Sports Day and Gymkhana. The fact that the committee was able with comparatively little assistance, to stage and run the sports and attend to all the necessary details is an achievement of which its members may well be proud. We heartily trust that this latest progressive Maori effort will be the forerunner of others of a similar nature, which will help organise the Maori people, and teach them independence and initiative.
Injury to Hand Friends will regret to hear that due to his accident at Ngaruawahia Military Camp last January, Pte. Joe Ranby has had to have his second finger removed at the Auckland Hospital. He is progressing favourably.
Unseasonable Visit Stilts, which usually leave New Zealand in the early autumn for the Solomon Islands, and do not usually return until the spring, have been reported in several parts of the district this month.
