WHAKATANE BRANCH MEETS

PROGRESS DURING MONTH

1 here was a good attendance, at the monthly meeting of the Whakatane branch of the New Zealand Kcd Cross Society over which Mrs W. Sullivan presided.

Mrs Prideaux for the V.A.D. said that advanced, classes; in Home Nursing had already commenced, and Intermediate Avould commence after Easter. Sixty-six members of-the Junior Red Cross were taking Home Nursing classes. Miss Rnnciman, Matron of the Whakatane Hospital, was ready to begin kitchen and laundry classes at any time.

Mrs Ramson said two cases were packed containing 41 pairs of pyjamas, 9 dressing gowns, and-7 bedjackets. Mrs Timbs had added the following knitted goods for the Joint Council: One long sleeved pullover, 6 short sleeved pullovers, 1 waistcoat- 1 pair bed socks, 1 balaclava. Mrs Ramson wished to express appreciation for the excellent way Mrs Pyne had cut out the dressing gowns. The material was very thick, almost blanket weight, and each pair had to be cut separately, and Mrs Pyne had done them beautifully .

Mrs Timbs also supplied a list of knitting completed for Patriotic and that there was a good supply of wool in hand. They needed scarves, mittens and balaclavas.

The Comforts Committee, said Mrs Shapley, had made six hussifs during the month.

The Entertainments Committee had arranged a farewell dance for some men on leave, they were Lt Crapp, Sgt W. Hanlon, S/S K. Sisam., Tpr Pat Appleby, Gnr W. Parry L/Bomdr C. Mollison, Pte A. King and L.A.C. Garaway. Proceeds ffrom the dance were over £13. Sixteen men in all had been farewelled during the month.

M?s ' James read out the various amounts taken by streets who had had/ the shop during the month. They were good sums.

Mrs Moran. for the Lady Gahvay Guild thanked Mrs Armstrong's group for more clothing for the six year group. She said she would be packing goods for shipment in a week rii* so.

Mrs Winstonc said the catering for the Gymkhana (including a donation of their prize money, amounting to £13, given by Sisam and Sons) had realised £80 15s lid. Gratification was expressed. Two letters of thanks, were read, one. man saying his parcel, for, which he expressed thanks, had contained a greeting card from Mrs Comer of Whakatanc. Another letter was handed in by Mrs Bathe and was very interesting. This concluded the meeting.
