A special vote' of congratulation was accorded the Taneatua Committee on achieving its full quc.ta. The chairman remarked that it was a wonderful performance and indicated that the committee had undertak--cn a lot of hard work. Woollen Goods A statement on the knitted articles despatched showed that 303 jraryes, 199 mittens, 388 balaclavas, 42 hussifs, 2 kneecaps, 9 skull caps, 127 pairs socks, 1 pullover, 337 gift parcels had been received. While six cases of clothing had been forwarded to Auckland under the Lady Galway Guild Scheme. All clothing had been sorted by the Borough committee which had also been responsible for most of the collecting. Cups and Saucers The secretary reported that a letter received from the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council asked that • each household donate one breakfast cup and saucer for use in the Patriotic Board's Institution huts, had " met with no response. In view of the fact that breakfast cups and saucers cannot be purchased, the result of the appeal was not surprising and it would appear desirable for the meeting to indicate l to the Provincial Council that it would be unable to assist in this, direction. Delegates declared that the response .in their respective districts had been completed without success and it was therefore decided to write the Auckland Council explaining the ~ position. Welcoming Returned Men The case of a recent Returned man who attended a welcome sotfj* oial at considerable expense to him- * .self and who was not reimbursed in any way was introduced, 'members •seeking guidance. Mr I. Gow said that a Farewell Committee existed in most centres and people were of the opinion that the welcoming home should also fall Avithin their province. As for assisting returned men financially, he was definitely of the. opinion that Patriotic. funds should supply that money. He considered* that something of a uniform nature should be handed lo each man on his return and suggested that this matter should be taken up by the executive. The meeting agreed to the latter course and the Avhole question will be clarified in the near future.
