HELD BY GOVERNMENT
EXTRA MONEY FOR PIGS TARANAKI PROTEST A protest against the action of the Government in withholding the extra %d received from the British Government for bacon and %d for porkers was expressed at the annual meeting of the Taranaki District Pig Council, when a resolution was carried requesting the Government to add these amounts to the schedule price paid by operatives. This action was taken in view df increased cost of production caused by increased wages and costs of pig food. The money was being retained with other monies from beef, lamb, pork and mutton and offal as a trading pool to protect the Government against possible loss in the future, said the chairman, Mr T. J. Davis. The retention of monies should not apply to baconers because they were saleable, and it appeared that the 3-8 d was being held to cover a loss that could not occur. The' motion was carried unanimously.
