WASTE RUBBER
AN extensive field for the salvaging of waste is opened by the announcement that the collection of old rubber is to begin shortly in this country. Largely because of the high percentage of motor car ownership in New Zealand, and the absence in the past of industries capable of making extensive use. of rubber waste, the accumulation of this material over the years has been very considerable. Indeed, rubber is one of the commonest waste materials to be found in rubbish dumps, in fields adjacent to populous areas and on any untidy foreshore. A national appeal for old rubber should meet with an immediate response and it should be the duty of the public to anticipate the formal issue of the appeal by salvaging now. Every day that passes sees discarded rubber in some shape or form being destroyed, or employed for
non-essential purposes
