MARRIED AND SINGLE MEN

BALLOT FOR 26,000

AGE CLASS 18 TO 46

The Minister of National Service, the Hon R- Semple, has

announced that as a result of

the serious war situation in the Pacific, the balance of the National Military Reserve and of the territorial force will, as previously announced by the Prime Minister, be mobolisedi on January 10. In addition, i/t has be-/ come necessary to bring the territorial force up to full establishment and a greater number of men will, therefore, be re-

quired' than is at present available.

It has, therefore, been decided to call up all the remaining single men who have not yet been called in any biaillot. This mainly affects those who have recently attained the age of 18 and those of 20. In addition, however, all married 1 men between the ages of 18 and' 46 without childr rem will also be called up. A Gazette which will contain the names of approximately 26,000 men, will be issued oin January 20, and after medical examination which will take place mediately after the Gazette has been issued, men will be drafted' into camp at the earliest possible moment.

Irrespective l of Children

If and when further men are required to complete the numbers necessary for the present stage of mobilisation they will be drawn from married men aged from 18 to 24 ilnclusive, irrespective of the number of children. "It is unlikely that men posted to camp will be released after the normal three months' training," said Mr Scrapie. "The question of how long they will remain mobilised will naturally depend on the gravity of the war situation.
