FAREWELL DINNER
MR AND MRS L. H. BROWN
About fifty members of the staff of the Native Department joined at dinner at the Whakatane Hotel on Monday night to bid farewell to Mr and Mirs L. H. Brown, who leaves to reside at Hastings on Saturday Week. Visitors were present from Rotorua, Tauranga, Ruatoki, Hararapara Station and Te Teko while representatives of the Department of Agriculture and the Public Works Department were also in attendance.
Mr C. R. West acted as host, while Mrs J. R. Waddell, as hostess, presented Mrs Brown with a prettily arranged posy as she entered the lounge. The Rev. Wharetini Rangi led grace. Following the honouring of ■ the Loyal Toast, the T'oastmaster, Mr K. G. Runciman, called on the following speakers: Mr T. M. Wilkinson Staff) who presided welcomed the visitors. Mr G. V. Fordham (Registrar, Rotorua), Mr John Dickin (Tauranga), Mr J. Merritt (Ruatoki), Mr J. N. Breingan (Haparapara), Mr L. Brosnahan (N'gatiawa) and Mr E. Meredith (Valuation Department) . Many glowing tributes were paid to Mr and Mrs Brown who were toasted, with honours following which Mr Wilkinson presented Mir Brown with a wristlet watch, and Mrs Brown with a silver sandwich tray on behalf of the Departmental (staff of the district. Miss Maureen Brown was handed a book. During the evening a welcome was extended to Mr J. H. Flowers, who succeeds Mr Brown at' Whaltatane and who arrived from Hastings to commence his duties thisi week.
