CHANGE TO CHEESE

NEW FACTORY NEARING

COMPLETION

It is expected that the new cheese factory of the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Coy will be commencing operations very shortly although ,at present it i's impossible to name the exact daite. The new factory has been rapidly equipped and is cl'ose to completion.

From the outset the whole number of the farmers who are to change im supplying butterfat to< the butmaking factory to sending milk ■ the making of cheese, will not .called upon, as it is the intention commence with a few most suity situated and gradually bring | production up to full capacity. Lccording to local machinery sup- [; firms all farmers involved have [ yet completed the equipment of |ir sheds for the new routine, and ring the next few weks it is-anti-J late-d that firms and farmers Will extremely busy. The shortage of materials is hold- [ up the work in many of the Ids and according to one local firm [nager will be directly responsible I some farmers being unable to tply milk to the cheese factory at I desired time. He stated that iters were extremely, difficult to tain adding that for some time he [l endeavoured to obtain two urktly needed but without avail, pile cans are also scarce and, al[ugh the Government has guaranfd to supply 500 cans that number uld not be sufficient to cope with i requirements. The Opouriao impany has collected all cans not juired in its area and sent them Ithe Rangitaiki to ease the posifi, but however, this remains difult. For the past tw r o weeks the County Council plant has been busily engaged in supplying metal for the making of access roads to farms in the Waimana and Nultuhou areas where the change-over has been effected. On an average five trucks have been operating and carting about 300 yards of metal per day. There is, it is estimated, another week's metal carting to do before all farmers will be supplied. No road making has been commenced in the Rangitaiki area as yet.
