EARLY MORNING BLAZE
FIRE IN BUSINESS AREA
GRAND MILK BAR GUTTED
ADJOINING PREMISES THREATENED
, / At about 2.45 this morning the Grand Milk Bar in the Strand was found to be well ablaze with a mass of flame shooting skyward. The local Volunteer Brigade promptly answered the call given and, although the fire had a strong hold, soon luad thef flames under control and ad-«^ 1 e flagration and control was established. Bucket pumps were commissioned for the safeguard of the adjoining premises. Tins of film were hur/iedly removed from the Grand Theatre which may suffer slight damage by smoke Avhich made entry to the building uncomfortable. The Grand Milk Bar, which was occupied by Mrs Hayward, is with Mr B. S.. Barry's offices on the other side of the theatre, part of; the Grand Theatre buildings controlled by Iverridge theatres.
Insurances on the building, or on the stock and fittings which were, a total loss, are as yet unknown.
