GIRL GUIDE TROOP
YESTERDAY'S meeting for the installation of a citizen's committee makes the Whakatane Girl Guide's troop an accomplished fact. It is pleasing to note the quick response to the Commissioner's visit and the manner in which par- * ents are backing the movement up. Already recruits are offering in numbers which exceed all expectations. The girls are of a good type and are keen to get on with the initial work of guiding. The usefulness of the troop at the pretime time is emphasised by the example in other districts where the Emergency Precautions Committees have been glad to avail themselves of the girls knowledge of first aid, nursing and home maintenance. Commissioner Balfour dealt comprehensively with the activities of the average troop, so that all prospective new members will understand exactly the nature of the organisation which they are joining. We have no doubt whatsoever but that Whakatane will be proud of its Guide troop and that it will in time become a strong force for good in the lives of the young girls of
our community.
