GERMANS BUSY
FRESH PROPAGANDA
" Germany's propaganda machine in the Middte East is swinging into action in a new campaign aimed at persuading Iran and Afghanistan openly to co-operate with the Axis. The Daily Herald's Cairo correspondent says that the new drive indicates the direction of Germany's ambitions after, and if, Russia is conquered. " Hitler is seeking to create a solid corridor from Russia to India," he adds. " Intense: pressure is "being brought to bear on the Iranians through pamphlets, paid bazaar whisperers, agents in army circles, and glittering social functions. " They are told: ' Britain and Russia are planning a joint attacik ion you. They wilil pretiend that they only want to forestall the Germans' as in Syria. You must watch out, for your independence is at stake.' The argument is being spread throughout Iran. So far Britain has not made adequate reply. Neither Britain nor Russia has any propaganda mechanism on the spot capable of a counter-action of the Axis lies which may become a serious menace unless they are scotch ed."
