BACK IN THE GAME The Railway Handicap winner, 1940 and 1941, Bronwcn, has again been put into work. A couple of months ago the owner decided to retire her from the turf, and she was given a paddock spell. During the past few -weeks the Cambria mare has given evidence of freshening up in an unexpected manner, and the decision was therefore reversed. She is now to undergo a preparation for a third Railway Handicap. THE WINTER CUP Gladynev, winner of the Te Horn Handicap at the Manawatu Hunt meeting, is now w-ell in the marke'j for the Winter Cup. At Awapuni lie defeated a number of very smart sprinters over seven furlongs, and it is anticipated that the extra furlong at Riccarton w T ill be quite in his favour. BEAULIVRE THE BRILLIANT Consequent upon a foreleg trouble Beaulivre has been turned out in New South Wales for a lengthy spell. This leaves one less good galloper for Kindergarten to cope with. A CLASSY TWO YEAR OLD 111 accompanying the Auckland team to Sydney is the two year old Nizam, the full brother to the great stake earner, High Caste.. RIDERS FOR RICCARTON A. Jenkins will ride Bridegroom in the Grand National Steeples, and W. Ji. Broughton will pilot Gayest Son in the Winter Cup. KINDERGARTEN'S CHANCES In Sydney racing circles Kindergarten and his chances in the big Australian handicaps arc still the subject of much comment. Trainer Frank McGrath, one of Sydney's foremost authorities, is of the opinion that with 9.7 in the Metropolitan Kindergarten will have to be quite as good as his most enthusiasm tic admirers claim him to be. and his chance seems to be in the Caulfield Cup Avith 9.2. In this race is very much better treated, than in the Metropolitan. RETIRED FROM ACTIVE LIST Lady Montana, a member of B. Burgess' northern team in the past two seasons, has finished her racing career, and from now will enjoy tl.e freedom of the paddock. The latest addition to the team is Gladys nev, who will be competing at carton next-week. MAY COMPETE Although not accepted for the Grand National Steeplechase Birkology has been accepted for tljr Beaufort Steeplechase to be run on the third day.. Evidently he is expected to recover from the reported breakdown of three weeks ago. AN IMPROVED CANDIDATE Tidewaiter, a Grand National Hurdle acceptor, is reported to have improved considerably since running at Awapuni. He is to be *i*iden by J. H.
