Mr A. F. McGougan, of Taneatua, is at present indisposed and is undergoing treatment at Rotorua. Mrs Rex Morpeth, of Whakatanf ; visited Mrs G. H. Adams, Tauranga, during the week-end. Mrs L. Rangi has been appointed to represent the Ngatiawa Committee on the Whakatane County and Borough Inter-Zone. Patriotic' Committee. Those present at yesterday's County Council meeting were Grs J. L. Burnett, L. W. Luxton, W.A. McCracken, H. C. McCready, R. F. Wardlaw, D. W. Spence, T. G. H. Cawte, F. H. Burt, C. G. Lucas (County Clerk) and C. (County Engineer). Leave of absence was granted Crs. A. F. Mc-I Gougan and G. T. Smith. Sergeant J. Dive, who enlisted at Wellington and . sailed with the Third Echelon, having been invalided home from the Middle East, is visiting Matata, where he will recuperate as the guest of his sister, Miss Shirley Dive, headmistress of the Matata Public School. On Saturday evening Mr and Mrs Jaram entertained many friends at a party given in honour of the cornin g-of-age of their daughter, the function taking place 1 in the Poroporo Hall. Miss Jaram wore a charming ankle length frock of cyclamen taffeta. The hall was tastefully decorated with streamers, balloons and greenery. The gues! of honour blew out the candles on a large two-iiered cake before the guests partook of a sumptuous supper. During the evening a programme of dancing was enjoyed and was interspersed with equally appreciated items. Music was supplied by a professional orchestra. GRACE—CLARK. Mr and Mrs A. D. Clark, of Whakatane, announce the engagement of their only daughter Loma Leah, to Harold Vernon, second son of Mr A. Grace, of Whakatane.
