USED STAMPS APPEAL

PATRIOTIC EFFORT CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED The Auckland Provincial! Patriotic Council has launched its campaign for the saving of used postage stamps for disposal in aid! of the Patriotic Fundi, and circulars have been received by the local committee. A special committee has; been set up at Auckland where the stamps are receivedi, soaked, and classified and arrangements mad?, for their disposal. All the proceeds from sales will be devoted to the Provincial Patriotic Fund and zone quotes credited on the accepted percentage basis, because it Avill be impracticable to' sell), lots separately. It is not intended or desired to interfere with, or to attempt to divert, any collections which are now made for charitable purposes or purposes of a public nature. This appeal and the scheme! it sponsors are directed solely to those; who at present have no commitments; whatsoever in that regard. The campaign will extend for the duration of the war. To be a complete success,, it must have widespread and; wholehearted co-operation. For that reason, local bodies and business; interests which are free to do' so, are asked' to arrange for the retention of every stamp that enters their offices, and for the despatch of tho committee of a parcel at regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly intervals, as may be convenient. The Education Board has. been asked to instruct head teachers to c.xpJair the details to the children, whose enthusiastic aid would give a most helpful impetus to the campaign. Each donation will be acknowledged by the committee, "which is giving its services' willingly and voluntarily. All issues of New Zealand used stamps as well as those of oversea countries are needed, hut torn, dirty or heavily post-marked stamps are of no value. Millions of stamps can be dealt with U> the material advantage of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Fund, and the provision it makes for the; welfare of the members of all branches of New Zealand's Fighting Forces.
