SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED KING STREET HALL CROWDED The King Street Hall attracted a very large crowd on Saturday evening when the Whakatane Ladies' Patriotic Committee held a dance for the purpose of welcoming home the four local men who have been invalided from the theatres of war. It Avas unfortunate that only three of the men coui.d be present, but nevertheless the evening proved most enjoyable dancing continuing to music by Mrs Armstrong's orchestra until midnight. During the tvenifig His Worship the Mayor. Mr B. S. Barry, and the president of the local branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association, Mr L. R. Brown, welcomed the men present, Despatch-Rider V. Hay ward and Fiivates M. B. Kelly Waaka Tekaci r-nd also the returned man, W. P. Olsen who could not attend. Both speakers paid tribute to the service the men had given the country and expressed, regret that they had been rendered out of action adding the hope that they would soon be restored to the state of physical fitness enjoyed when they left for overseas. Despatch-Rider Hayward replied on behalf of the men.
